Major Express Entry CRS changes effective November 3, 2026
IRCC is introducing a Labour Market Integration factor. Candidates receive the higher of their Canadian work experience score or qualifying high-wage job-offer score, not both added together.
Eligible Canadian work experience in a listed high-wage occupation can add 20, 40 or 70 points after at least 12 months of qualifying experience. The combined factor can reach 150 points without a spouse or 140 with a spouse. Qualifying job offers in listed high-wage occupations can receive 50, 70 or 100 points depending on the occupation-level wage tier (1.3x, 1.5x or 2x the national median benchmark); the worker’s individual salary does not set the tier.
Starting November 3, an LMIA is not required for qualifying Express Entry job-offer points. This does not remove LMIA requirements for employer-specific work permits under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. IRCC will verify that job offers are genuine.
Candidates with job offers should update their Express Entry profiles before November 3. Existing profiles will be recalculated, which may take up to two weeks; invitation rounds will pause during recalculation.

Understanding the pathway
Express Entry is the federal online application-management system for the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program and Federal Skilled Trades Program. A candidate must first qualify for at least one of these programs before entering the pool.
Entering the pool does not guarantee an invitation. IRCC may conduct general, program-specific or category-based rounds, and eligible candidates are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System. The practical question is not only whether you can create a profile, but whether the profile is accurate, competitive and supported by documents.

CEC, FSWP and FSTP each have different work-experience, language and other requirements.

Age, education, language, work history, spouse factors and additional-point claims must be entered correctly.

The selected NOC and TEER must reflect the work actually performed, not simply the job title.
Document readiness
Language results, educational credential assessments, employment records, police certificates and proof of funds may be time-sensitive.
Category strategy
Category-based selection can create opportunity, but candidates must still qualify for an Express Entry program and meet the instructions for the round.
Admissibility and history
Travel, status, refusals, medical and criminal issues can affect the permanent-residence application.

Current program position
Express Entry remains active. On October 16, 2026, IRCC conducted French-language proficiency round #450, issuing 5,000 invitations at a minimum CRS score of 435 (tie-break: October 6, 2026 at 21:31:22 UTC). This category-specific cut-off is not a general Express Entry threshold; candidates must meet the French-language category and an eligible federal program’s requirements. On October 15, 2026, IRCC conducted Express Entry round #449 for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), issuing 2,500 invitations at a lowest-invited CRS score of 519 (tie-break: September 21, 2026 at 19:00:47 UTC). This CEC-specific round is distinct from the October 13 Provincial Nominee Program round (#448: 752 invitations, CRS 772) and the October 1 Trades category round (#447: 3,500 invitations, CRS 476). A CRS cut-off is the result of one invitation round, not a permanent eligibility threshold. Candidates must satisfy the applicable federal program criteria, provide supporting evidence and meet admissibility requirements. Questions to clarify before filing
Do I need a Canadian job offer?
Not for every Express Entry program. A valid job offer may be relevant to eligibility or strategy in some cases, but many candidates qualify without one.
Does qualifying for a category guarantee an invitation?
No. You must also qualify for an Express Entry program, meet the category instructions and rank high enough within the applicable round.
Can French improve my position?
Yes. Qualifying French results may contribute CRS points and may also make a candidate eligible for French-language category-based selection.
Can errors be corrected after an invitation?
Some information can be updated, but a material discrepancy may affect eligibility or points. The profile and supporting evidence should be reviewed before submission.
